COACHES:
The Ski Apache Disabled Skier's Program is looking for a couple more coaches for the 10/11 ski season.

The requirements are:

  • You must be a strong skier/boarder with excellent balance and athletic ability.
  • You must be available to work holidays & workdays under a call when needed arrangement.
  • You must be able to work without days off over holidays and busy periods.
  • You will be lifting up to 100 lbs. loading mono and bi-skiers.
  • You must be willing to sacrifice your  body to protect your students.
  • Help out keeping the room clean and organized, which should be a chore shared by all without having to make stupid calenders that assign people to chores.
  • You must be able to enjoy your free time. The other biggest benefit to this job is working on the mountain! You will have a lift pass to ride whether you are working or not. The days when we have a cancellation we do SOMETHING to justify getting paid, then we go play.
It's not a job for everybody!  We need dedicated people who will take the job seriously!

It's not that it's such a dangerous job, it's that we work with a lot of heavy equipment (like ski lifts), and coordinating with another person is essential loading people strapped into a bi-ski. The bottom line is, WE are responsible for the welfare of our students as they learn and immerse themselves in a strange and unfamiliar environment. We are responsible for getting our students through the day safely, because we know what can happen and we understand and foresee the hazards. We take responsibility when things go wrong and are willing to forgo a few bump and bruises ourselves instead of abandoning our customer if things start to go wrong. We need to think ahead before we do things and be aware of things as we do them.

Avoiding snags in the first place is the professional way of doing things, and that's what what we are looking for. Somebody who is or wants to be a professional adaptive ski instructor. We work the Christmas holidays hard through New Years' Day, with out a day off. Next, we have a lull until the school program starts in mid-January, then we really need people everyday. It's seasonal, either we get slammed during holidays or we have nothing. Then We Usually Go Sliding!!!

Please contact us if you are able to help out with one of the most rewarding jobs in the country! We would love to see a teaching background in skiing or boarding, but we will train someone who is eager to learn. Skiers are harder to find these days and you are valuable to us because many jobs we do REQUIRE skis. If you only board, you may want to learn to ski too.

MEET THE COACHES:
Here we give the coaches space to give us a first or second person account about themselves.
