In a celebration of 36 seasons of teaching people with cognitive and physical disabilities to ski and snowboard, the Ski Apache Disabled Skiers' Program (SADSP) welcomes renowned skydiver Dana Bowman to Ski Apache. Bowman, a retired member of the U.S. Army's elite parachuting team, the Golden Knights, is a motivational speaker who speaks about his belief that hard work and perseverance reap rewards.

"When Dana speaks to a group of people, his main goal is to help those who hear his story to believe that miracles do happen and to spread the word that we all can make a difference in this world," said Lori Lamphere of the SADSP. "That is what our program is all about and Dana is a perfect representation of never giving up and living life to its fullest - even in the face of adversity."

Everyone is invited to come to Ski Apache and watch Bowman as he skydives to the bottom of Chair 3 at 10:30 AM Saturday morning. Later that night, he will be the keynote speaker at the SADSP's 26th Annual Silent Auction that is being hosted by the Inn of the Mountain Gods from 6:00 - 9:00 PM.

All funds raised during the event will go directly to the SADSP program to update equipment, provide training and cover operating expenses. The program does not ever turn anyone away due to type or extent of disability or financial constraints and relies on the support of fundraisers and volunteers.

In addition to all of the activities that will be taking place that weekend, Mayor Raymond "Gus" Alborn will proclaim the Last Saturday in January as Ski Apache Disabled Skiers' Program Day in Ruidoso.

November 2, 2011
Dear Staff, Board and Volunteers of SADSP,

It's my first week back up at Ski Apache (officially) and after dusting off the office and setting up the computer I am writing to report on the next upcoming events.  Yes, a more extensive newsletter is in the works with info about last year's season, upcoming season and last month's great party on the mountain and the inspiring Ski Run Road Challenge last weekend. Thanks to all who helped and participated!

There is snow on the north facing shaded slopes with a cold front coming in this week.  The area is already making snow on the bunny hill. So let's not give in to the weather forecasts and succumb to a poor moisture attitude.  As one of the tribal members said to me at Party on the Mountain, " This is our mountain and we have to believe that the snow is coming."  I am believing!

1. Evacuation training scheduled for this Sunday Nov. 6th from 9 to 2,   put on by ski patrol at the mountain.  If interested, pack yourself a lunch and just show up.  We will meet in the restaurant with a video to start the morning then head outside for hands on training.

2. Webinar on Traumatic Brain Injury sponsored by Disabled Sports USA    Here is the info:
Understanding and Working with People Who Have Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Join us for a Webinar on November 7

3. First Aid Training: Some took this training last year which lasts for two years.... Is anyone else interested in the American Red Cross Training?  If I get a few interested I will look into scheduling a training.  Safety First!.

4. Pot Luck and Fun "get in shape" training scheduled for Saturday November 26th here at the mountain.

5.  Other trainings will be scheduled most Saturdays in December and early January (except Holiday week) and hopefully specified by topic.

That's it for now.
Appreciatively,

Shippen Davis
Program Director
